In Tehran militants seized a three member NBC TV crew from the rooftop near the U S Embassy as negotiations continued. NBC said the men were released after questioning with no details provided. State Department officials condemned the seizure amid the crisis over 62 American hostages.
Officials in Qom and Tehran say negotiations for a staged release of some of the 62 American and about 40 non American hostages are under way led by acting Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Bani Sadr. A TV chief and NBC producer report possible moves, while student spokesmen reaffirm Imam Khomeini's stance as the guiding force. Outside, demonstrations grow as Iran seeks a resolution to the 12 day siege of the embassy.
Official county tallies show Michael B. Keys defeating Mayor Marguerite E Bowman by 63 votes in the Nov 6 election, 7 573 to 7 510. Bowman asked for a recount, which will be free due to the margin under half a percent. timing depends on certifications and board schedules.
Lorain County election officials finalize the official tally from the November 6 vote. Midview School Board President Don Ald Binnie defeats William Lewis for one of two open seats while Eugene Rivera Jr wins on the Lorain School Board slate. Amherst library levy also passes, producing a new set of winners after a recount. James Dayka has signaled intent to seek another recount.
A case in Elyria Municipal Court against Richard Willis of North Ridgeville for criminal endangering was dismissed after his attorney argued the defendant did not receive a speedy trial. Prosecutor Michael Keys said he may appeal, though new city officials will decide. Willis was accused of throwing a baseball bat at a car driven by Jeffrey Silverman. the case had been moved from Elyria to Medina and back amid venue disputes and appeals.
A 22-year-old former Berlin Heights man, Spencer, faced three felony counts after an early morning vandalism spree damaged the Milan Police Station. He was arrested by Norwalk officers without resisting, though he broke a window in a Norwalk cruiser. Nine sentences not present.

In Pietermaritzburg Judge Johan Hefer convicted 12 black militants of high treason. One defendant was sentenced to death, while the remaining 11 received 14 to 18 years in prison. The prosecutor had sought the death penalty for all defendants, first use of hang for treason in SA history.
