Nursing home quality site viewed as aid and risk
Elder care advocates praise a new federal Medicare site detailing quality measures for thousands of nursing homes, including 29 facilities in Lorain County. Some administrators warn data can mislead and should be one of several resources in choosing a facility. The site, Medicare.gov, uses state data and lists violations while comparing facilities to state averages.

Late Fall Leaves Delayed Leaf-Raking Across County
Lacking frost slows leaf drop postponing cleanup across Elyria and surrounding areas. Horticulture agent Charles Behnke notes trees shed later than usual, some in Northern Ohio dropping leaves in September due to a dry summer. City crews will extend overtime as pickups stretch toward Christmas. Workers report multiple city rounds already and warn drier ground could affect evergreen and recently planted shrubs requiring water before freezing.
