Judge laments lenient juvenile laws in Ohio reform
Judge John C. Young of Franklin County Juvenile Court criticizes the revamped 1983 Ohio juvenile code. He says penalties for curfew violators, runaways, and minor shoplifting are too light and favor rehabilitation and evaluation over punishment. The law allows shorter sentences for juveniles, while adults face harsher terms for repeated offenses, with programs like Youth Employment, Academic Retraining reducing state commitments.
