Olmsted seeks court order as garbage strike escalates

North Olmsted officials petitioned the county court for a back to work injunction against more than 60 striking service department employees over a new schedule. No garbage pickups occurred. supervisors may assist later. The wildcat strike involves street, sanitation, treatment plant, and maintenance staff amid disputes over 7 am to 3 30 pm hours versus 8 am to 4 30 pm.

The A&P supermarket chain faces heavy financial strain with twelve area stores listed for sale as talks of exiting Cleveland grow. Cavaliers win temporary Coliseum access in court ruling

The Cleveland Cavaliers secured a court injunction in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court giving them use of the Coliseum until midnight Nov. 21 after being locked out over the weekend. Disputes with Coliseum managers include telescreen usage and Coliseum Club membership, with Cavaliers president Nick Mileti saying the matter is in lawyers' hands.

Communists claim Milan prison attack on retired official

In Milan an urban guerrilla group called the Communist Attack Squads shot Dr. Mario Marchetti, 65, the retired health director of San Vittore prison, in the legs. Physicians say three bullets struck the right leg and two the left. he is in shock but expected to recover in about two months. The claim came via ANSA after the attack as authorities hold several Red Brigades members at the prison.

Chip and Caron Carter Separate After Five Years

President Carter's son Chip and wife Caron have separated after five years of marriage. The first lady's office said Caron and their son James Earl IV will move to Georgia while Chip stays at the White House and works for the Democratic National Committee. A divorce was not confirmed.

Old man learns to read after decades of being duped

McKinley Wright, 82, illiterate and unable to count, was swindled for months by a burglar using his Social Security checks and a $150 telephone bill. A homemaker assistant taught him to read numbers 1 to 100 and write his name. He then cashed his check at a store, counting the money aloud with help, proving the scam and regaining control.
