Car hits crowd on Youngstown sidewalk killing six

Witnesses described a vehicle jumping a curb in downtown Youngstown, injuring nine others. Three people died at the scene and three more died later at South Side Hospital. Driver James Anderson, 30, was held for questioning. Victims named include Letanea Williams, Joseph Legree, Al Satterwhite, Orpha Hoffman, Gloria Bankston, and Eunice Foster.

Nixon orders faster Vietnam pullout despite residual force fear

Ax-wielding crewman ends Calgary hijack six hours in air

A masked hijacker carrying dynamite and a shotgun seized Air Canada Flight 812 from Calgary to Montreal with 123 aboard. An Air Canada crewman used a fire ax 3,000 feet up to knock him unconscious, ending a border-crossing six-hour ordeal. The hijacker, claiming IRA ties, demanded 1.5 million and a safe passage to Ireland, later accepting 350,000 ransom in Great Falls, Montana, before passengers were released. The plane zigzagged across the U S Canada border before the crew subdued him and freed several crew and passengers.
