Lorain Civic Center Site Debate Pauses Proceeding
Lorain city council delayed a decision on civic center sites as the building and lands committee sent both the primary and alternate site proposals to council. The primary site near West Erie Avenue through Wickens Place would cost about 1.25 million for 34 acres, while the alternate around city hall costs about 895 thousand for 5.7 acres. Local officials argued the primary would rejuvenate downtown, while critics warned of higher taxes and possible lost tax duplicates.

Lorain officials and B&O Railroad urged the Army Corps of Engineers to issue a dredging permit for channels near coal and ore docks. The delay stems from pollution concerns from spoil material, with officials arguing the move would not add pollutants but transfer them inland. Damran pressed for action as weather improves, warning bulk shipments could end if blocked.
