Brown pelicans declared no longer endangered species
Interior Department officials announced the brown pelican is removed from the endangered species list after a four decade recovery. Declared endangered in 1970 due to DDT, the species rebounded thanks to a 1972 DDT ban and habitat protections.

New dinosaur species Aardonyx celestae found in South Africa
Paleontologists led by Adam Yates report the early Jurassic Aardonyx celestae from South Africa. The 23 foot herbivore stood about 6 feet high at the hip, weighed roughly 1100 pounds, could walk on two legs or drop to all fours, and may illuminate how sauropods evolved larger bodies. The find, published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B, links two and four legged forms and fills a gap in sauropod evolution.
