Oberlin outage halts air traffic in Midwest
A system power failure at the Oberlin FAA center caused 113 aircraft to divert as backup power faded. Human error during preventive maintenance dropped a metal part onto a crucial component, blowing a transformer and taking radar and computers offline. Power returned in hours with air traffic shifted to Indianapolis Nashville and Leesburg centers.
