PLO abandons bid to free Iran hostages in Tehran

A PLO delegation declared its efforts to secure release of the U S Embassy hostages in Tehran had failed and left the city. Iran’s regime and militants reaffirmed resolve to resist U S pressure as a five day hunger strike began nationwide with more than 400 students joining the protest alongside about 60 hostages and thousands of officials outside the embassy compound.

Elyrians See Signatures as Messages From Hostages

A petition reportedly signed by 33 hostages held in the United States embassy in Iran drew speculation that a relative’s signature could be a silent message to families in Elyria. One signer with Elyria ties is named, though the family asked for anonymity. A spokesman said the family views the signature as reassurance that relatives are safe.

Family asks for Shah release in hostage petition

The Family declared through the state department they will not discuss the case until the man is freed. A petition asks for the nation to return Shah to the Iranian government and vows freedom once a settlement is reached. Signed by 23 of about 60 hostages, with two signatories listing Korea and the Philippines.

Sedated Geiger Returns for North Olmsted Murder Trial

Gordon James Geiger, 27, flown from Australia under heavy sedation, returns to the United States to face trial for the fatal stabbing of his North Olmsted parents, John and Marguerite Geiger, whose Sherwood Drive home was found with both victims dead on June 7. He arrived at Cleveland Hopkins Airport escorted by two police officers and a doctor, then to a county facility for processing.

Fire kills 14 in Pioneer boarding home blaze

In Pioneer Ohio a fire at a boarding home killed 14 women. Owner-operator Gladys Coats 62 died while trying to save a resident after rescuing three people including her husband. A four year old boy Brian sparked the blaze by setting a couch on fire. Firefighters arrived within two minutes but could not enter the burning two story brick house.

Goats Liberated From Berea Pet Shop In Weekend Capers

Berea police report a man and woman crawled through a display window at Suzette's Pet Bouque to seize a goat valued at 75 dollars. The couple, Kevin Wendall and Katherine Wendall, were charged with breaking and entering and petty theft after returning the animal nearby.
