Survivor recalls 70 hour battle with sea and wreckage

Jorgen M. Greve the lone survivor of the sunken schooner Brooklyn told doctors at a Eureka hospital how he clung to wreckage for 70 hours after the vessel foundered off the California coast. He said he gave up hope several times, but was picked up five miles off shore, while his 17 crewmates were believed to have perished.

In Lafayette Indiana a bomb wired to the automobile of Purdue University instructor W F Heidergott exploded as he stepped on the starter. Heidergott 54, in charge of forging heat training and welding, suffered severe facial injuries and possible death. The blast wrecked the garage. police could not determine placement or trigger. Heidergott has taught at the university twelve years and previously lived in Indianapolis.

Lorain County Grand Jury Begins Second September Session

The Lorain County grand jury will convene next Tuesday for its second September term session. A manslaughter charge tops 12 cases, including auto theft, breaking and entering, carrying concealed weapons, and non support of minor children. In Calshot England at Southampton a Dornier DO-X seaplane carried the Prince of Wales and six others on a 26 minute test flight. The craft rose after a three-fourths mile run and touched down smoothly on the water circling at 500 feet. The party, including Dr. Mia and Claude Dornier, remained aboard for a time.
