Lemonade fundraisers fuel cancer research push
Three months after six year old Alexa Dra Scott died of neuroblastoma her lemonade stand charity surpassed its 2004 goal of raising 5 million for cancer research. Her parents say they will continue seeking support from individuals and companies as researchers expand programs at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Alex began the effort in 2000, raising $2,000 that first year and later reaching $200,000 by 2003. Their foundation plans to fund high risk neuroblastoma research as survival rates remain around 40 percent.
