Researchers in Brookline and Boston analyzed 168 patients seeking second opinions on angiograms. They found 80 percent did not need the procedure, with 16 eventually undergoing it. four years later 11 died and 19 had heart attacks, while 66 percent remained well, suggesting about 50 percent of coronary angiography could be unnecessary or postponed.
