FASH strike prompts Teamster eyes on road

Officials of the Teamsters monitor highways as a threatened wildcat strike by steel haulers fails to materialize at midnight. William J Hill says 60 percent of the 30 000 haulers east of the Mississippi could participate. A Teamsters spokesman reports no confirmed stoppages yet as late runs approach. Elyria High fans topple goalpost after big win

Elyria High students tore down the steel goalpost at Ely Stadium after beating arch rival Lorain High 12-7 to claim a Buckeye Conference co championship. The crowd went wild and the ancient post, set in concrete, fell for the first time in about 25 years.

Sanjabi Arrested Before Tehran News Conference

Karim Sanjabi, head of Iran's National Front opposition, was arrested in Tehran minutes before he could denounce the regime at a news conference. He had just returned from Paris after meeting Ayatollah Khomeini and said he would not cooperate with martial law authorities.

City officials man garbage trucks as Olmsted strike widens

North Olmsted officials including Mayor Swietyniowski and department heads operated sanitation trucks while Service Director Corrigan met with AFSCME Local 2681 leaders in Cleveland to quell a wildcat walkout by over 60 workers joining Friday. The city seeks an injunction Monday and says some workers were suspended for resisting new hours from 7 am to 3 30 pm after the time change. Pickets stood outside locations including the waste water plant and city hall.
