Elyria Schools will host a Veterans Day car parade at Northwood Schools Monday. Local veterans and families may participate, with the parade running from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Elyria High School marching band JROTC and police will join.
Northwood Elementary School plans a Monday parade at the Rosalee Avenue entrance of the Northwood campus to honor veterans. A coin drive runs through Tuesday to raise funds for Honor Flight Cleveland, which sends veterans to Washington DC to visit war memorials and monuments.
Public buildings including court houses city and county offices and banks will be closed Monday in observance of Veterans Day. Lorain County Administration Building on Middle Avenue and Lorain County Justice Center on Cour Street in Elyria are among the closures. The Friendship APL at 8303 Murray Ridge Road in Elyria celebrated volunteers from the Elyria Arts Council who repainted a rusted 40 foot container into a bright green mural featuring cartoon cats dogs and rabbits. Twenty six volunteers contributed to the project and received gift bags and pizza at a ceremony, praised by Executive Director Greg Willey for turning an ugly object into art.
