Tribes warn offshore wind farm would harm sacred rituals
Wampanoag of Mashpee and Aquinnah say Nantucket Sound turbines near 400 feet tall would block sunrise views and threaten sacred sites during solstices and elder ceremonies. They seek Traditional Cultural Property listing to protect rituals and ancestors remains at Horseshoe Shoal. Cape Wind counters that claim is a delay tactic while project advances with estimated $1 billion cost and up to 75 percent of Cape Cod power. Decision due by Nov. 12 on whether to proceed to National Parks Service ruling within 45 days.
