Lorne Elbert Faces City Pushback Over Permits and Plans

Elbert, a developer known for outspoken stance, clashes with City Council and residents. He faced misdemeanor charges over a windward Drive grading permit, while planning choices for Chateau Estates and Windward Drive sparked disputes. Officials note missing permits for wetlands work and sewer installation amid broader opposition. Local officials describe his style as blunt and rapid, yet say they have no personal grudge.

Elbert's hard edges fuel local political clashes and crime

A Carlisle Township figure named Elbert, who once exchanged gunfire with two thieves fleeing a hijacked truck, remains a persistent force in local life. He chased the thieves to I-71, left two bullet holes, and later pursued politics as a Democrat with two failed campaigns in 1975 and 1977. He critiques city politics as roadblocks to progress while pursuing business, antiques, Catholic school fundraising, and a large family. He built a 7500 square foot home on 38 acres, values family above all, keeps busy with work, auctions, and collecting Studebakers, antique guns, and phonographs.
