City seeks federal grant to repair Washington Ave bridge
Elyria reports the city will apply for a 600000 federal grant to rehabilitate the Washington Avenue bridge, covering about 80 percent of costs with the city to reserve 120000 in 1984 for construction to start spring 1985. Richland Engineering Ltd. analyzed four options, choosing a 600000 repair program to last 20 years, including a new deck, sidewalks, drainage and railing. The 1913 bridge has deteriorated from water intrusion and received renovations in 1925 and the 1950s.
