Local girl Denise Maddock tops Ridgid Tool calendar

Elyria native Denise Maddock, a Kent State junior and former EHS graduate, becomes the first Elyria girl featured in the Ridgid Tool Calendar. Her father Darrell Maddock works at Ridge Tool, and Denise has held summer jobs there. A Miss Ohio finalist, she aims to broadcast and entertain, with plans to move west in a decade.

Six Die in Ohio Mobile Home Fire

In Rogers Ohio six members of the Watts family perished when a mobile home burned early today. Betty Watts 42 Catalano Watts 5 and Beth Anne Eason 3 plus Christene Eason 4 and Bob and Bill Watts seven year old twins died. Six others escaped including Richard Watts 41 Eric Holsinger 16 Tom Holsinger 13 Tom Watts 11 RN Holsinger 15 and Michele Watts. The fire started with the family awoken by Eric Holsinger. Watts died rescuing others and was found on the ground. Cause is under investigation. The victims were taken to Beaver Falls Pennsylvania grandparents home. Rogers lies near Youngstown along the Ohio River.

Warm spell ends as Elyria sees cooler days ahead

The Elyria area enjoyed sun and warmth last weekend with a Saturday high of 75 degrees, a Sunday 74, and record highs surpassing previous marks. Forecasters expect a low near 40 tonight and mid 40s with a 30 percent rain chance Tuesday, with northeast winds at 10 to 15 mph.
