New law lets pharmacists substitute cheaper generic drugs

A new Ohio law, the Generic Drug Act, allows pharmacists to substitute cheaper generics for brand name prescriptions with patient awareness. The law, effective Jan 1, requires disclosure of price differences and carries pharmacist liability for substitutions.

Girl 8 Leads Brother to Safety After Plane Crash

In Las Vegas an eight year old girl guided her dazed 11 year old brother across desert terrain after a single engine plane crash that killed their mother and the pilot. The girl Rochelle Krumpeck led Randy to a road after directing searchers to the crash site. Two others died Ruth Krumpeck and Ron Griffin. The siblings were found near a Las Vegas truck stop and later released from hospital to police care. The flight originated in San Jose with a stop in Bakersfield before heading to Las Vegas.

Carter veto blocks funding for Clinch River nuclear plant

President Carter issued his first veto to block funding for the Clinch River breeder reactor demonstration in Tennessee, saying the plan would produce plutonium and aid nuclear weapon efforts. Congress had approved an $80 million supplemental for the project, while the veto targets the 1978 Energy Department authorization.

Hand Reattachment Shown To Be Possible In Sandusky

Charles Gibson Jr 19 of 408 East Monroe Street remained in fair condition after surgeons at St Joseph Hospital reattached his severed left hand from an accident at American Crayon Co. in Sandusky. He said from the hospital he felt pretty good and thanked supporters. Surgeons spent about three hours on the procedure, with results still uncertain.

Typewriters Doomed by VDT Move Says Dismayed Typist

A letter writer denounces CT switching to VDT and fears a national move to replace typewriters with computers.
