California seeks 7.4 billion in federal aid for wildfire recovery
California Governor Jerry Brown, joined by U S senators and 39 of 52 lawmakers, asks the White House and Congress for 7.4 billion in disaster funding to cover cleanup and recovery costs after the Northern California wildfires killed at least 43 and destroyed thousands of homes. The request targets housing, transportation, agriculture, and wineries, with 3.1 billion for agricultural rebound including vineyards. Only one Republican, Rep. Ed Royce, signed the letter. Brown also seeks 41.5 million in state funds for immediate needs of victims ineligible for federal aid.
