New round of asbestos tests at Franklin Elementary

Franklin Elementary School conducted air sampling in 15 areas after PTO pressure, with results reported as 42.9 to 14.3 asbestos particles per square millimeter. Officials say levels are below the federal limit of 70 and the building is safe. Three PTO parents watched the testing by American Analytical Laboratories Inc. of Akron. Further testing is planned in six months.

Four teens injured in Wilkes crash near trees

Four teens from the Wilkes Villa complex were hurt late Sunday when a 14 year old boy steered a car into trees near Elyria. Two of the injured were listed in critical condition, while the others sustained non life threatening injuries. The incident occurred near See TEENS, A-2.

Record cold snaps across Ohio as thermometers dip

A deep cold front pushed into Ohio dropping temperatures to record lows in several cities. North Ridgeville reported 16 degrees at 6 am, tying a 1955 record and matching 1966, while Sunday’s 20 degree low broke a 29 year old mark. Akron 13, Mansfield 12, Youngstown 14, Cleveland 16, Columbus 19, Cincinnati 18. Brisk winds 15 to 25 mph. highs in the 30s expected.
