Stockmart surge boosts Reaganomics era optimism

Stock market jumped to a record high as the Dow soared 43.41 points to 1,065.49 amid late October gains. Auto makers posted higher sales, with a 7.9 percent rise in new car sales from a year earlier and a 3.2 percent monthly uptick. Economists say Democrats’ gains won’t derail Reaganomics, and lower rates could further lift demand. Analysts note the rally reflects expectations of falling interest rates and a gradual economic recovery, though some caution policy adjustments may be needed to tackle unemployment and recession.

Ohio Edison won PUCO approval Wednesday for an $85.7 million rate increase, raising average residential bills about $4. Officials say the move does not fix the utility’s problems amid a $2.9 billion construction program tied to meeting federal clean air standards.
