Spectacle Of Aerial Warfare Astounds Elyria Co B Vets
A World War I diary entry recalls November 2 1918 when Company B of Elyria soldiers watched about 50 planes engage in a rare air battle. Major Hultz notes fog lifting over the Escaut river as engineers race to bridge the river while ground action rages around Welden Andenard and Fort Kezel. The account includes a daring German plane, the death of a French lieutenant, and intense river crossing under shelling before nightfall.
