York workers approve six year pact at York International

York International Corp union members at Local 6985 of the United Steelworkers approved a six-year labor agreement by better than 3-to-1. The old five-year contract expired Oct 31. About 800 hourly workers are covered with 950 employees overall. The deal includes annual pay raises and pension increases and establishes a joint management union relationship.

Dole launches 96 hour campaign blitz in Ohio

In Ashland at the University fieldhouse Dole urged a 96 hour push toward victory as he campaigns across 15 states to win Ohio's 21 electoral votes. Ford Bush and Voinovich boosted the effort predicting Ohio will carry Dole to the White House while supporters stressed tax cuts and urgent turnout.

Unusual key mix leads to Oberlin arrest

Oberlin College student Thomas James Joyce, 20, was stopped after using a key he believed belonged to his friend. The brown 1982 Toyota Cressida Joyce borrowed had been reported stolen by Jessica Rigby, 21, who said she parked near Stevenson dining hall. Police noted the coincidence of two similar cars with the same key is rare, and a judge will decide if Joyce committed unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Joyce pleaded not guilty in Oberlin Municipal Court Friday.

Snow blower thief swipes gear from Kotter & Co.

Police investigated a theft at Kotter & Co., 1402 Lowell St., where a burglar climbed a fence and used tow motors to move snow blowers off pallets. Owner Mark J. Feyerchak estimated several snow blowers may be missing, with serial numbers to aid counts. The break-in occurred between 3 p.m. Thursday and 5 a.m. Friday.
