Icy road conditions blamed for an early morning crash in Clarksfield killing Walter Langer, 41, of Fremont, a Red Star Trucking Co. driver. The Huron County Coroner cites a fractured skull and crushed chest as the cause of death.

First Pike Section Ready In 4 Weeks

Peters burg reports motorists can take first spin on the Ohio Turnpike in about four weeks as finishing touches complete the initial 21.4 mile segment linking the Pennsylvania Turnpike near here to the west toward Akron. Some sections may already be drivable while Meander Reservoir bridge, east gate toll plaza, shoulders, slopes, and medians receive final work.

Westbound crash on Rt 1% injures Langel in wreck

State Highway Patrol reports a westbound trailer crash on icy Rt 1% near Clarksfield. Langel was pinned in the wreckage as another truck driven by George Moyer of Akron sideswiped the trailer after it slid through a curve. Moyer was uninjured. Police continued the investigation.

Judge Sees No Ground Now To Call Mistrial

Cleveland INS reports Judge Edward Blythin rejected grounds for a mistrial in Dr. Sam Sheppard's murder trial. The court will consider disqualification of juror James R. Manning after prosecutors sought his ouster for a past sex offense. Defense contends the judge lacks authority to remove the juror. Trial recessed for a holiday and resumes Wednesday morning.

Lorain man faces ouster bid after Manning case

A white-haired defense lawyer shouted a challenge as the move to oust Manning intensified late Monday. His associate Fred Garmone urged the state to back its claim that Manning received a six-month suspended sentence and two years probation after a conviction for unlawfully occupying an automobile for lewd purposes with a young boy.

Average Turnout Expected in Lorain County

Sunny weather may boost city votes but dampen rural turnout in an off year. Lorain County election officials seek an average turnout based on absentee ballots and early reports. Martha Stone a 44 year old New Jersey Communist party leader was arrested by the FBI on a federal warrant issued June 17 1954 in New Haven Connecticut. She is charged with being a member of a group teaching and advocating overthrow of the U S government by force or violence. Her arraignment in federal court was expected soon. Her husband Emil Asher said she would be extradited to Connecticut.

Polish Count Nabbed by FBI in Cleveland Case

A 32 year old man claiming Polish count status, Lester Z. Potocki, is held in Cuyahoga County jail on ten thousand dollar bond for impersonating a G man. FBI agents nabbed him in Cleveland over the weekend and he was arraigned before US Commissioner Harry A. Halm on Monday. Israeli report raiders blow up unoccupied building in Negev

Israeli authorities said Egyptian raiders blew up an unoccupied building on the outskirts of a settlement in the Negev area early today. No casualties were reported. The incident followed a delayed action bus. Israel planned to complain to the United Nations Mixed Armistice Commission.
