Progress Toward Farm Adjustment The Corn Hog Plan
The corn hog adjustment program launched October 17 by Secretary Wallace would pay 39 cents per bushel for corn and $5 per hog head. Farms with 20 percent acreage reduction and 25 percent cut in hogs may receive upfront and conditional payments totaling per acre and per head, with most funds following contract fulfillment and August 1 evidence. Club Winners To Meet At Chicago For Competition
CHICAGO November 1 Farm youths about 1200 from 44 states travel to Chicago to take part in the National 4-H Club Congress at the International Livestock Exposition. The 12th annual congress coincides with the Chicago Stock Show celebrating its 34th anniversary. Delegates represent champions among a million farm youngsters enrolled in 4-H projects to excel in exhibits from baby beef to girls cooking and home decoration. Exposition management expects a record junior livestock feeding contest. Many exhibitors have won prizes at state and county fairs. Processing taxes on corn and hogs will fund payments, with hog taxes starting at 50 cents a hundredweight and rising to $2 by February 1934, and corn taxes beginning with the marketing year. The 10-state concentration includes Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin.

County Home Rule Amendment debates in Ohio voters face choices
A long contested ballot section seeks to overhaul county and township government in Ohio via an initiative. It would let counties draft their own plans, possibly transferring powers from towns and townships, with a charter commission to guide the process. Opponents warn of loss of local identity and increased taxes. The measure also includes a separate old age pension proposal with supporters urging passage and opponents warning of higher taxes.
