Ancient 12000-year skeleton found in Mexican cenote
Divers exploring the Yucatan cenote La Virgen entered the Hoyo Negro cave on May 10 2007 and uncovered the oldest most complete 12 000 year old skeleton of a teenage girl along with bones from extinct gomphotheres. The discovery by Alejandro Alvarez and teammates reshapes views on early American origins. The find was later studied by Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History and published in Science.
