Man leads multi‑department chase through two counties

A Cleveland man, 31, led five departments in a 25 mile high‑speed chase ending in Elyria. Two police cruisers were wrecked and two injuries required hospitalization. Furline, 23, was driving in the final collision and also injured.

Ohio House approves record $7.8 billion two year budget

The Ohio House Republicans pass a record 7.8 billion two year appropriations bill sending it to the Senate. They must still finance 825 million in spending increases while Gov. Gilligan faces opposition from Democrats over tax and welfare cuts. The vote included 52 yes votes with two GOP defectors, and accusations of threats and political maneuvering surrounded the passage.

International Molders Local 268 Votes to Strike AmStan

The 600 member Local 268 votes 426 to 18 to strike American Standard Air Conditioning Division Tuesday after contract expiry Monday night. Bargaining ran 1 PM yesterday to 9 AM today. 12 language items agreed but no economic terms. Union rejected the proposal 414 to 18 before the strike vote. spokesman W Baxter Lee cites members’ preference to end the contract.

State frees funds for Lorain County College project

The State Controlling Board approved 199000 for Lorain County Community College to build a south entrance and drainage system. Regents authorized 60896 to buy equipment for a 2.5 million science-technical building. Contracts awarded include 103795 to The John F Cleary Construction Co. and 11851 to Elyria Superior Electric, with remaining 138736 for sewer work and 11564 contingency. Construction begins this summer.

Ex-area man dies in crash near Millard

A 21 year old Wellington native who moved to Kentucky was killed when his car left a two lane road on Rt 1441 about a mile from Millard. Passenger Ann Thacker, 18, Millard, is in serious condition at Pikeville Methodist Hospital after surgery. The crash occurred near Millard in Pike County.
