Thousands of Elyrians will line downtown streets for Memorial Day events. The 3 pm parade, led by Grand Marshall Fay Snyder, will end at Ridgelawn Cemetery where services, wreaths, a three volley salute and Taps will follow a 1 hour later address by Dr. James H. Siward. Awards will be given to students by local veterans groups.

Gunshot Wound Costs Soldier His Life
Paul A. Carley, 29, of Hemlock Michigan, on furlough from Ft Knox, died at Bay View Hospital Bay Village last night from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. An 18-year-old Cleveland resident on furlough from Ft Knox, who allegedly discharged the pistol, is held in county jail pending Ft Knox military action. The pair were driving from Michigan to Cleveland through Avon Lake when the incident occurred.

Tractor Operator Narrowly Escapes Big Farm Blaze
Jack Molnar of Birmingham escaped injury when his old tractor burst into flames and exploded while plowing. The flash fire produced dense smoke drawing several hundred residents from Florence and Henrietta Townships to the scene. Birmingham Fire Department arrived but the tractor was a total loss.

Youth Held On Breaking And Entering Charge
William Roll, 19, of Russia township, held on breaking and entering charges for entering Oberlin College girls dormitory. A dozen students chased him on bicycles as he fled. Campus Officer Ray Warren and City Policeman Roy DeHaven rescued him from a beating by the students.

Five Hurt In Four Car Route 20 Crash Near Barton Ridgeville
Five people were seriously injured in a four car crash on Route 20 near Barton Road in Ridgeville yesterday evening when a wheel came off a 1935 car driven by Nicholas Bates. Bates escaped injury but four passengers, including two children, sustained brain concussions and fractures. Mildred Mitchell, owner of the vehicle, was unconscious and taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital. Other injured included Marie Rosendaal and two children, Beverly Parish and Richard Parish. A fifth victim, Harry Neuenschwander, suffered multiple leg fractures when his car was struck by the wheel and veered into a ditch. Minor accidents followed over the weekend with several more collisions reported downtown.

Retired Oberlin Fireman Eugene Bliss Dies
Eugene C. Bliss of 223 North Pleasant Street died at Allen Hospital at 9 45 a m. He retired six months ago after 20 years with the Oberlin Village Fire Department. Born in Ridgeville he moved to Oberlin 25 years ago. He was active in Masonic circles and other local orders. Survived by wife Ruth, three children and eight grandchildren. In Marion's Diner disturbance two defendants Pleas of Innocent entered in police court before Mayor Henry W. Ault. Elza Beth Porter 215 North Street and Robert Shober 436 East River Street arraigned on disorderly conduct charges and each continued for hearing. Memorial Day toll climbs as traffic drownings rise
United Press tabulations show 260 fatalities since the holiday began Friday evening. Traffic accidents killed 173, miscellaneous accidents 37, airplane crashes four, and 48 drownings. The four day holiday left highways jammed with vacationers as cooler weather and showers moved across regions.
