Drafting Four Year Wheat Control Plans
Washington May 27 officials announced plans to draft a four year wheat contract under the AAA after a 6 to 1 vote in favor. Secretary Henry A. Wallace called the 85 percent approval an unmistakable mandate to extend the program. Chester Davis noted the referendum’s impact on farmers using the Agricultural Adjustment Act tools in other crops. The new contracts replace 1953 agreements and allow termination after year two by farmers and any year by Wallace. The deal limits any single year wheat surpluses to 30 percent and includes annual price based benefit calculations.
