Honda to enter IRL as fourth engine maker in 2003
The Indy Racing League announced Honda will join the IRL in 2003 as a fourth engine manufacturer, a major blow to CART. Honda has supplied CART engines since 1994 and won four manufacturers titles, with Penske moving his team to the IRL this season. Andretti, Castroneves, and de Ferran are cited as examples of CART’s struggles as Honda shifts allegiance to the IRL.
