Nixon to end CIA funding for two radios

The Nixon administration will end CIA funding of Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty, shifting to a public subsidy of about 40 million dollars. The plan, announced by Case, would create a nonprofit corporation to oversee the funding while Congress reviews the measure and questions spend oversight.

Water pollution bounty hunters expose river crimes in Pittsburgh

Colorado political scientist David Nixon and zoologist John Zavodni, both Penn State professors, used the Rivers and Harbors Act to pursue 73 counts against U S Steel Jones Laughlin Wheeling-Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania Industrial Chemical for discharging pollutants into the Ohio and Monongahela rivers. Second deadly quake devastates eastern Turkey reports say

Eastern Turkey rocked by a strong earthquake described as the second deadly tremor in the country in 10. Officials warned of possible hundreds of deaths with Bingol and nearby towns severely damaged. Kandilli and the U S center measured 6 8 magnitude. Rescue and relief teams mobilized as Red Crescent and troops rush aid to the affected areas.

Turks Find Body Of Kidnapped Consul General

In Istanbul police uncovered the body of Ephraim Elrom, the kidnapped Israeli Consul General, in an upper-class apartment. A citywide curfew and a massive house to house search by over 30,000 police and troops followed the kidnapping by Turkish People's Army terrorists who demanded the release of imprisoned guerrillas. The curfew ended at 3 p.m. Sunday as authorities pursued the abductors.

Lorain County Soap Box Derby to Award Eleven Trophies

Ed Brady, 1970 champion, poses with eleven ornate trophies to be awarded July 18 after the fifth Derby. Lima State Hospital probes to run separate paths

Two distinct investigations into alleged patient abuse at Lima State Hospital proceed without overlap. One led by Lorain County Probate Judge Harold Ewing examines conditions to improve care, while Nicholas Cruci heads an Attorney General run probe for possible criminal activity. Both report to Gov. Gilligan and aim for completion within about 30 days for the Ewing study, with no set finish yet for Cruci's.
