Memorial Day ceremonies set for New London and Wakeman with breakfasts, parades and speakers. New London Legion Auxiliary serves breakfast at 185 North Main St. and services at Holy Cross and Grove Street Cemeteries followed by a parade to Memorial Park with speaker Todd Christie. Wakeman ceremony at Wakeman Elementary features Vic Reserve Band and John Alton, then a pancake breakfast at Legion Hall. Community notes include a June 22 Heart Walk, a food drive recap, and Wakeman Cookbook orders with local ads and contact lines.
James Boshers 77 of 6195 Ethel Ave was found facedown outside his home Tuesday by a postal worker. Coroner says death likely natural from heart attack. he had been dead since Friday and lived alone. Neighbors noted mail piling up and an open door with TV on as signs.
Leadership Lorain County graduated 36 members after 10 months of community improvement training. The ceremony featured discussion of three student projects including a career week for high school juniors and a youth oriented Leadership Lorain course.Executive Director Gail Stumphauzer praised graduates for taking board roles and expanding opportunities for youths. The class includes students and staff from Lorain County schools, universities, and local organizations.
A priest and academic dean at St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo has been placed on leave after family members alleged a near forty year old sexual abuse incident in Salt Lake City. The Rev. Thomas O’Neill, 72, taught math at the school and has not been reassigned while authorities review the claim.
