Sterilization tops the pill as leading contraceptive
Washington reports Worldwatch Institute findings that voluntary sterilization has become the dominant method of contraception worldwide, with about 75 million couples sterilized and more than 240 million using some form of contraception. The study notes sterilization growth due to simplified surgical methods and cites vasectomy’s earlier popularity. The pill ranks second, with 5 million couples using oral contraceptives by late 1976.
