Midwest Faces Another Winter Shortage of Natural Gas
Federal power commission officials warn the Midwest will likely face a winter gas shortage that could shutter factories and keep homes in the 60s. Hearings continue as gas curtailment orders loom. Panhandle Eastern Pipeline and Midwest Gas Lifeline say they need over 500 million cf daily for summer and winter storage, but only about 435 million cf daily will be supplied, with 35 million cf allocated from the Big Inch Pipeline to bridge the gap. The gap may widen next winter despite plans to boost Panhandle output in February.
