The Freedom Rock murals honor Iowa veterans
Ray Sorensen, known as Bubba, paints a 56 ton boulder near Menlo Iowa each May to honor American service members. The project draws thousands yearly and has become a living memorial with visitors from across the country. He has faced graffiti and a Vietnam veteran’s legal backlash but continues to expand the tribute with artwork, shirts, and prints while stressing gratitude over politics.
