Gloriously mad voyage reaches Los Angeles
An expedition of gloriously mad English explorers led by Sir Ranulph Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes has reached Los Angeles on its first polar circumnavigation of the earth. Mayor Tom Bradley welcomed them with keys to the city as Lady Virginia Fiennes accompanied Sir Ranulph aboard. The journey began in September 1979, covering about 52 000 miles and following the Greenwich Meridian. The Prince Charles is Patron of the expedition. The article notes the couple's test-tube twins due in about three weeks and mentions a winter stay in a cardboard hut in Antarctica with their terrier Boothy.
