Four Oberlin professors from the college and conservatory plan retirement at year’s end after long service. They are Charles Nelson Cole George David Hubbard William Treat Upton and Charles Henry Adams. Adams began singing in the conservatory in 1895 and became an instructor in 1902. Upton started as pianoforte teacher 39 years ago and has taught ever since. Cole served in multiple roles including Latin professor and dean of the college of arts and sciences. Hubbard arrived as geology professor in 1919 and later geography.

Washington May 21 A House Old Age inquiry renewed examination of Dr Francis E Townsend with a charge that Townsend leaders used the mails to defraud by raising an 11 0% bogus lobby fund. Committee counsel James R Sullivan showed copies of a Townsend Gram urging contributions for a lobby that he said did not exist and Townsend denied fraudulent implications while saying he was not familiar with all details. He disclosed a December 1934 setup of a Townsend lobby in Washington and a fund of 25490 raised, noting the lobby’s duties ended before the Gram appeal.
