Appeals court upholds Traficant conviction in double jeopardy ruling
The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati rejected Traficant's claim that he faced double jeopardy across three branches. It ruled he was first tried in federal court and that challenges to congressional proceedings should have been raised there. The panel criticized his self representation and noted deadlines were strict. Traficant’s projected release date was pushed back to August 10, 2009.
