LCCC eyes grant for Burns Road campus improvements

Americans see record 2.9 percent rise in disposable income

The Commerce Department reports Americans received tax refunds in large numbers boosting disposable income by 2.9 percent last month. Personal consumption rose 0.7 percent while March saw a 0.4 percent decline due to IRS processing delays. Primary tally steady as Lorain County board schedules certification

Lorain County elections director Jack Wolf said recounts are finished and the board will certify May 7 primary results at 4:30 pm before sending them to the Secretary of State. Turnout was about 16 percent with close races in North Ridgeville and Carlisle Township. North Ridgeville reelects Richard Noll by 15 votes. Berg would gain a free recount if margin under 5.5. Carlisle Township zoning referendum passes by 20 votes. North Ridgeville approves 2 mill levy for fire apparatus and salaries by 38 votes.

Supreme Court rules against The Nation in Ford memoir case

The Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, reinstated a $12,500 copyright award to Harper & Row and The Reader's Digest Association after The Nation printed excerpts from Ford's memoirs before publication. Justice O Connor said The Nation copied expressive passages and used them to scoop the publishers, exceeding allowed reporting.
