Woman Breaks Leg Jumping From Bridge Into Black River
A 42-year-old Elyria woman jumped from the Fourth Street bridge into the Black River around 4 p.m. Monday. An off duty Oberlin officer entered the water and helped pull her to safety. She was transported to EMH Regional Medical Center by LifeCare and later airlifted to MetroHealth in Cleveland and was listed in fair condition. The other bridge witness tried to talk her down. Bridges on State Route 18 close for second replacement
State Route 18 two bridges west of Pitts Road will close May 24 for the second phase of a two bridge replacement. The first bridge near Quarry Road stays under construction and should open May 28, while the Pitts Road bridge is slated to reopen Aug 17. A detour will guide westbound traffic from Route 18 to Route 58 to Route 20 to Route 511 and back to Route 18, with reverse routing for eastbound traffic.
