U S Farm Land Values Fall Across Nation in 1953 Four Months
The Agriculture Department reports farm real estate values for four months ending March 1 were down from a year earlier in every state. The national value dropped two percent from last fall and six percent from the prior year due to drought and lower cattle prices. Despite some commodity price gains slowing the decline, further declines are expected in late summer and fall as output remains high and carryover stocks stay large. Total US farm real estate value stood at 87.58 billion dollars, down 5.5 percent from last year and 6.5 percent from the March 1952 peak, with more farms financed by credit than in any year since 1946.
