Elyria Votes to Fold City Health District Into County System
Elyria will dissolve its city health district by December 31 and transfer services to the Lorain County General Health District on January 1. The 7-4 council vote follows Mayor Holly Brinda’s push to avoid mandatory city taxes and reduce general fund costs, with about 20 city employees affected.

Avon to seek renewals and replacement on police fire levies
Avon officials plan to place a renewal and a replacement on the November ballot for five year police and fire equipment levies. Costs for a 100000 home are 11.58 dollars yearly for police and 14.12 dollars for fire with annual revenues around 287799 and 361709 respectively. Both levies expire in 2017 and August filing with the county auditor is needed to place the issues on the ballot.

Elyria Man Arrested in String of Local Break-Ins
Benjamin Krugman 30, previously imprisoned for three break-ins at an American Legion post in 2012, was arrested after being caught attempting to break into the Back packer's Shop in Elyria. Police say he admitted to six break-ins with cash theft, including Mystic Hair Salon Kempf Dental Sambino’s Pizza and Kennedy’s Barber Shop.
