Lung Cancer Screening Expanded Under Medicare Coverage
The American Lung Association notes 158000 deaths from lung cancer in 2015, about 27 percent of all cancer deaths, but early diagnosis boosts five year survival. Medicare now covers an annual low dose CT chest scan for high risk individuals meeting criteria: ages 55 to 77, current smoker or quit within 15 years, 30 pack year history, no chest CT in 12 months, asymptomatic, fit for treatment, with a doctor's order.
