Former Detroit officer sentenced in beating death
A former Detroit officer, Larry Nevers, was sentenced to seven to 16 years in prison after a second involuntary manslaughter conviction in the 1992 beating death of Malice Green. Nevers and partner Walter Budzyn were accused of striking Green outside a suspected crack house. Bazyn’s and Nevers’ first murder convictions were overturned. Green’s sister urged the judge to send a firm message against such conduct.
