Taft shifts course funds time based drug treatment plan
Governor Taft announced six Ohio counties will test a treatment instead of jail program for juvenile and low income offenders. Allen Franklin Hamilton Mahoning Richland and Washington counties share 2.5 million to fund counseling and services with options to dismiss charges or seal records on completion. The plan builds on existing drug courts and contrasts with 2002 Issue 1 which failed at the polls. Edward Orlett issued a statement backing redemption for all, including Taft.
