Senate delays budget vote as Ohio fights deficit
Ohio lawmakers postponed at least a week a plan to plug a 1.7 billion deficit using the rainy day fund. Senate President Finan calls tapping the remaining 600 million "absolutely terrible" but says no other option exists, while House Speaker Householder seeks to avoid depleting the reserve. The plan hinges on cigarette tax increases to balance the budget by June 30.

State mulls selling dorms to private groups in budget plan
Ohio public universities oppose a proposal backed by Rep. Grendell to sell all public dormitories to private owners to raise up to 750 million dollars. Regents officials warn of higher student housing costs and note the plan lacks study. Gov Taft had no comment as Householder calls the idea speculative and in need of research.

Parking plan aims to add spaces on Washington Street
City officials discuss a 10 space addition with two hour limits to ease downtown parking while Second Street remains a one way and narrow. Broad Street already allows diagonal parking on its 68 foot wide road as City Hall work continues. County and city officials balance parking with traffic flow and await City Hall completion before possible two way conversion.
