Randall Schunk of the Chamber of Commerce announced a city wide cleanup starting at 1 p m tomorrow. Workers will report to assigned areas with brooms. Citizens are urged to start attic to basement cleanups while large items should not be left for city crews. Garden Street dump will operate during the week's pickups.
Farmer Michael Warman found a rusty hand grenade with his excavator and a local policeman tossed it aside for safety. The 18 month old golden retriever grabbed the grenade and chased the pair as they ran, until experts defused the device.
North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces began counteroffensives inside Cambodia targeting Kompong Cham and pressing near Pleiku and Saigon. The Se San operation ended with 184 enemy dead, 826 weapons seized, 599 tons of rice captured, while U.S. losses totaled 30 killed and 70 wounded. Five U.S. soldiers died and nine wounded as attacks hit Fire Base Branch inside Cambodia.
Ohio University in Athens closed as hundreds of demonstrators disrupted campus. About 1,500 Ohio National Guard troops were deployed. 1,000 to depart by nightfall, 300 by Sunday. Police used pepper gas as students threw bricks, with 51 arrests. The university plans to reopen at summer quarter start.
Ohio State University in Columbus resumed classes for medicine, dentistry, and veterinary programs after a May 6 shutdown. Graduate students return Monday and undergraduates Tuesday with strict campus security and mandatory ID checks. President Fawcett ordered limits on gatherings and warned guards and patrols could be deployed to handle protests.
Ellen Cream, a teletypist and Jersey Joe Walcott niece, is the sole Black finalist in Miss New Jersey and says her win is a victory for her race. She stresses pride, identity, and a hope for broader acceptance as she prepares for the Miss USA competition.

United Press International reports severe weather easing in Ohio after eight days of thunderstorms and tornado threats. A stationary frontal system moved northeast as a high pressure block retreated, allowing low pressure to travel northeast from Kansas City. Most of Ohio remained under a tornado watch with nine reported tornadoes or funnels last night, none touching ground and causing only wind damage. Defiance Putnam Van Wert Hancock Lucas and Seneca counties bore the heaviest damage, though none groundward.
