May 16 The state of Alabama opened an inquiry into the moonshiners graveyard murders linked to Posey Maddox the moonshiner known as the man who killed to defend his raid His son Wiley Maddox 15 confessed his father killed eight men who lay in the graveyard and faced authorities amid fear that Posey Maddox would strike again before he fell during a raid leaving a raiding officer wounded.
GRAFTON May 16 Mrs. William Segur 61 of Mechanic street died last evening after an extended illness and a stroke. Survived by husband a son Fred Hall of Tennessee a daughter Mrs. Pearl Hiller Graf ton two grandchildren Glad and Garnet Hiller and three sisters. Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 2 30 conducted by Rev W H Gibson burial at Butternut Rides cemetery.
