Hotlines to NRC offices at nuclear plants to start soon
NRC Chairman Joseph Hendrie told the House energy subcommittee that by month’s end hot lines will be installed in nearly all of the nation’s 70 commercial reactors. The lines will ring the NRC operations center and regional offices, with 24/7 staffing. He urged stronger state evacuation plans, noting 41 plants are in states without NRC-approved plans. He dismissed calls to tie new plant licensing to a safety plan approval.
